In Jazz and Blues the blue note is a note that is outside of the standard scale, which adds expression to the music. This addition to the standard notes being played or sung gives these musical genres a feeling that leads to a sense of sorrowful or “blue” emotions. This artwork represents this emotional feeling with the use of Tasmanian Oak. With its dark veins, ingrained hardship (a grainy, hardwood) soaked in a blue stain that emerges from darkened edges (music with a dark past, born out of a terrible history of slavery and oppression), all under its polished surface.
