The instrument in this artwork is an Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer. A Hammered Dulcimer is a completely different instrument, from another part of the world. It has many strings and played with little felt hammers. Interestingly, this instrument here has become a Hammered Dulcimer through the consumption of alcohol. A light play on words as the drunken dulcimer leans against an alley wall surrounded by empty bottles. Looking a little deeper though, the label on the bottles states “WHISKY the original and best transformation solution”.  Is this liquid of transformative power a solution to wanting to be something other than yourself? This artwork broaches the topic of self loathing and escapism through alcoholism, portrayed by a musical instrument.
