The harmonic series is the foundation of all musical scales and tuning systems. Referred to as overtones, these are the extra notes that sound along with the main note that is being played. The frequency of these extra notes are integer multiples (or harmonics) of the fundamental note, ie 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 etc. This artwork is a visual representation of some of the overtones that exist in music.
