In the music and theatre world there is constant pressure to project a certain persona, to maintain an image and to generally exude charisma. This is extremely hard to do all the time, over an entire career. Wearing this mask can take its toll and, as this artwork suggests, that mask (or make-up) can start to run, with small gaps starting to show through.
